We are recruiting a ‘Head of Finance’ to work for a charitable organisation based in the County Kildare area.

This organisation works with adults with intellectual disabilities. 37.5hr week/Hybrid.

Salary: €75000 – €84877

The primary purpose is to support the CEO and Board of Management to ensure financial compliance and accountability in respect of the financial business in its entirety. The post holder will undertake a leadership role as a member of the Senior Management team, with 8 staff on the team.

Employees are expected to support the delivery of the organisation’s mission, vision and values as part of their day to day work and to comply and positively promote teh competency framework through behaviours in the workplace. In return you will be supported by your Line Manager through supervision and support, listening, training and development and the best resources that can be provided to assist you deliver your best.

Qualifications required: A fully Qualified Chartered Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Policy- to enure that the management of finance is fully compliant with regulatory requirements and to ensure that all financial practices carried out are handled in an appropriate manner.
  • Promote & manage change to maximize efficiency – to manage and monitor the use of the companies resources
  • FInancial Reporting – to ensure the preparation of year end accounts and other financial reports as may be required
  • Relationship with external stakeholders – to work closely with external auditiors, advisors and with other stakeholders as required in respect of all financial matters
  • Maintenance and development of an effective system of financial controls – maintain and develop a system of internal Financial ontrols to ensure budgetary control, management and accountability, report on variances against budget and provide detailed explanations, Identify and report on financial trends and identify corrective action, ensure all reporting is delivered on time, develop service user costign systems to support service planning.
  • Manage day to day operations of the Finance Function- salaries, AP, Patient accounts (AR) , management information systems
  • Management of financial resources to maximise income nad ensure efficiency, cost control, develop KPI’s, financial governance arrangements
  • Preparation of financial reports- prepare year end returns as required, prepare other monthly financial reports as requested by the CEO or board of Directors
  • Insurance- take overall responsibility with other senior management to ensure adequate insurance cover is in place and renewed on time
  • Negotiation with external stakeholders


  • A fully Qualified registered Accountant (essential)
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role (essential)
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience (desirable)
  • Proven experience of participation at senior management/board level in an organisation
  • Experience of resource management in a large values based organisation (essential)
  • Experience of negotiation with external stakeholders around funding levels and service level arrangements (desirable)
  • Previous experience in the charity sector
